Let's be direct about pets, because most DC room listings bury the answer: four of our five rooms are no-pets, and one may consider a small pet case-by-case. Here's the full picture.
Our pet policy, room by room
- Lincoln Room ($797, Columbia Heights): small pets may be considered case-by-case — ask us about your specific animal.
- Washington, Delta, Foxtrot, Joey: no pets. This isn't negotiable; it's a house rule the current housemates rely on.
Why group houses restrict pets
It's not about disliking animals — it's about several unrelated adults sharing kitchens and bathrooms. Allergies, noise, damage deposits, and one person's friendly dog being another's 6 a.m. alarm: in shared housing, pet policies protect everyone's living situation, including yours.
Tips if you're renting with a pet
- Ask before touring: don't fall in love with a room and then mention the cat. Lead with it.
- Offer documentation: vet records, renter's insurance with pet liability, and references from past landlords help enormously.
- Expect a pet deposit: many landlords charge one; factor it into move-in math.
- Consider the Lincoln Room: it's our only maybe — and "maybe" beats the hard no you'll get from most group houses.
